The NMS textile conservation team is recruiting two fixed term posts to support a diverse programme of textile conservation for National Museums Scotland's exhibitions, loans and displays. The posts will be part of the Paper and Textile conservation team based in the laboratories at the National Museums Collection Centre in Granton, Edinburgh.
Two posts are available:
• The Assistant Textile Conservator will cover maternity leave for approximately nine months from mid-April 2020.
• The Project Assistant Textile Conservator is project funded for seventeen months from July 2020.
Both posts will work across the programme of textile conservation, gaining experience from and contributing to a range of textile conservation activities to prepare our truly diverse collection for display.
As a successful post-holder, you will hold a recognised a conservation degree with the ability to work independently on the examination and treatment of textiles. You will have strong documentation and IT skills to document conservation treatments and the condition of items. You will be a team player, able to work to tight deadlines and effectively plan and prioritise your work programme. You will also have a passion for conservation and be able to communicate this to our audiences.
