In the next few weeks we are going to reach the heart of the second phase of the project “Structural treatments on double-sided paintings” supported by Getty Foundation as part of the initiative Conserving Canvas (https://www.getty.edu/foundation/initiatives/current/conservingcanvas/in...).
The CCR project includes the organisation of a workshop concerning structural treatments on double-sided canvas paintings and in particular on the banner from Pinacoteca di Brera painted by Giulio Cesare Procaccini, core of all the activities in programme.
The workshop is addressed to 6 mid-career conservators who have been selected through an international call for application which was closed last summer.
From the 7th to the 18th of June the Centre will host the first edition of this training initiative: the first three visiting conservators, Valerio Garofalo, Martina Quadrelli and Alice Tognoni, will join our Laboratories to deal, together with the CCR team, with the conservation of the banner painted by G.C. Procaccini. After an indepth presentation of the case-study, they will run tests on different materials and methods used for tear repair, which will be useful to intervene then on the artwork under the supervision of Bernadette Ventura.
Moreover, two seminars will be held respectively by Matteo Rossi Doria and Petra Demuth and Hannah Flock, on several topics concerning the conservation of canvas supports such as lining and tear repair.
