PREVENT: Mitigating Flood Risk for Heritage

By 2040, the global exposure to damaging flooding is expected to impact over half the world's population.

What will you learn? Through in-person training - with the World Heritage City of Trogir and its memory institutions serving as a central case study - followed by a 6-month follow-up project supported by online mentoring, participants will enhance their knowledge and skills in understanding climate change and risk drivers affecting flood risk to human settlements and heritage.

Who Can Participate? This course provides a unique collaborative learning opportunity for mid-career professionals, including but not limited to site managers, architects, engineers, archivists, librarians, museologists, curators, conservators, hydrologists, and experts from disaster risk management, humanitarian aid, urban planning, civil protection, climate science, etc.

Scholarship Opportunity: To ensure inclusivity, a limited number of scholarships are available for professionals from countries most affected by climate change-induced floods or with a history of flood-related threats to heritage.

How to Apply: Applicants are invited to submit proposals aimed at improving flood risk mitigation at a heritage institution (such as a museum, library, or archive) or a chosen heritage site. Heritage professionals interested in participating are advised to work collaboratively on their applications with experts such as hydrologists, risk mitigation specialists, or climate scientists. This collaboration is intended to foster a comprehensive understanding of the factors influencing flood risk at the designated heritage location.
