Icon Scotland Group is pleased to announce that Euan Leitch, CEO of The Built Environment Forum Scotland (BEFS), will give the 2020 Plenderleith Lecture.
Now in its 23rd year, Icon Scotland's prestigious annual lecture is held in memory of Dundonian Harold Plenderleith (1898 – 1996) who is considered one of the key founders of modern conservation.
The year 2020 has rocked the world. The BLM movement has called on us to confront and better understand the diverse narratives of our past and the Covid pandemic has turned economies on their head, resulting in plummeting resources for the culture and tourism sector.
BEFS has been operating at the interface between the heritage sector and the Scottish Government, advising ministers and stakeholders, developing strategies, connecting stakeholders, coordinating workshops, informing members and steering the sector through choppy waters.
If anything is certain in these uncertain times, it is that our sector will not be the same again. There is however a space now to re-imagine our approach to preserving and interpreting heritage, an opportunity for re-visioning and bold new strategies. Icon are looking forward to hearing Euan's unique experience of the last year and his vision of the future for the historic environment in Scotland.
The lecture will be preceded by Icon Scotland Group's AGM. Details of joining, ticketing and on-line venue will be circulated to Icon members and be made available by Icon Scotland Group later in the year.
