The International Centre for Underwater Archaeology in Zadar (ICUA Zadar) - UNESCO Category 2 Centre is organizing an international conference under the title ''Conservation and restoration in underwater archaeology: experiences, methods and new discoveries''.
The event will be held in Zadar, Croatia, from 24th to 26th October 2019 at the former St. Nicholas Church within the ICUA’s premises.
The aim of the international conference is to raise awareness of the key role of conservation-restoration in safeguarding cultural heritage with policy makers and civil society and to share knowledge of this complex activity.
Keynote speakers are Mr Jean-Bernard Memet (A-CORROS,France), Mr Peter D. Fix (TEXAS A&M UNIVERSITY, USA), Mr Quoc Khoi Tran (ARC-NUCLĖART, France) and Ms Barbara Davidde (Superior Institute for Conservation and Restoration, Italy).
The call for papers has been announced and three major themes have been chosen for the presentations – In situ preservation of underwater archaeological materials and sites, Relevant case studies in the conservation of underwater archaeological finds and Application of new materials and technologies for conservation practice and continued review of established methods.
The deadline for submitting the abstracts is 3rd June 2019.
Submitted abstracts will be reviewed by the members of the Scientific Committee and their decisions will be final.
For the lecturers invited to present papers, the organizer will cover the expenses for accommodation and travel.
