C2C Care: Labelling Lightening Round

User menu

Tuesday, 16 February, 2021 - 13:00

Connecting to Collections Care is planning an object labelling virtual lightning round and is seeking conservation and collections professionals to help! C2C Care provides resources, professional development opportunities, and support for caring for collections to all types of small to mid-sized cultural institutions.

The labelling lightning round will demonstrate five different methods of labelling collection material for a professional, non-conservator audience:

1. Written on the object in pencil
2. Fabric tag sewn in
3. Paper tag with string
4. "Traditional" B72 & ink (for both light and dark surfaces)
5. Paper label attached with B72 or alternatives

Participating demonstrators will be asked to submit a short pre-recorded video in which they demonstrate one technique. They will then participate in a live event via Zoom on February 16, 2021 at 1 pm ET for a lively discussion where our audience can ask questions and seek clarifications.

To participate, we ask that you have access to any materials, samples, tools, etc. needed to do the demo and make the video (cell phone videos are fine). We would like each video to cover: why this labelling method was chosen and the reasoning behind it (e.g. porosity, surface coatings, surface reaction to certain solvents, etc.); materials to use; tools needed; application technique; and things to look out for/potential pitfalls. Videos should be no more than 5 minutes and must be submitted to the C2C Care Coordinator by February 1st.

If you're interested in participating, please fill out this Google Form by January 15, 2021 https://forms.gle/G3ubQXgZjrFboG7x6

Questions can be addressed to Robin Bauer Kilgo, C2C Care Coordinator, at c2cc@culturalheritage.org. C2C Care is an outreach program of FAIC and generously supported by the Institute for Museum and Library Services. A modest honorarium may be available for participants.
