CAN! seeks your proposals on the conservation of contemporary art for its first-ever specialty sessions during the 2021 AIC Annual Meeting, currently scheduled for May 11-15, 2021, in Jacksonville, Florida.
CAN! was formed in recognition that contemporary art requires a number of unique material, social, technical, and legal considerations. How have you navigated this terrain? Possible topics include creative treatments of contemporary artworks; preservation of contemporary media and formats; collaboration with artists, artist estates, and other stakeholders; developments in theory and ethics; documentation practices; the ecosystem of contemporary art; and beyond. In the spirit of mutual learning, substantive works-in-progress and open questions are welcome. Shorter presentation formats are possible. While proposals may relate to the overall meeting theme of TRANSFORM 2021, this is not required (see also the call for the CAN!/EMG Joint Session: Transforming Ownership into a Network of Care).
At present, AIC is planning on an in-person meeting in Jacksonville but will be watching public health guidance closely and may delay the meeting or hold it virtually. There will be an online component in all cases.
For more information and to submit a proposal, please go to: https://www.culturalheritage.org/events/annual-meeting/current-meeting/c...
Proposals are due by 11:59PM EDT on Wednesday, September 30, 2020. Proposals should not be more than 500 words with a separate 300-word author biography.
